Recent RCA graduates Stuart Carey and Katy Jennings present ‘Hand And I’, an
exhibition of contemporary handmade ceramics.

19th-21st November at Space FiftyFour, 54 Rivington Street, London, EC2A 3QN.

Opening drinks reception on the 19th 6-9pm.
Open on 20th and 21st from 9am- 7.30pm.

Stuart and Katy graduated in from the Royal College of Art ceramics department
in 2011, and whilst their work differs they share a love of the importance of the
handmade object.

Stuart Carey’s wheel thrown tableware, emphasises the intimacy of functional
objects. During making the pieces are lifted from the wheel whilst wet and this
action and immediacy leaves a movement in the surface, capturing a moment
which can be seen and felt by the user.
The work consists of sets of thrown stoneware bowls, beakers, jugs, plates, cups
and mugs of varying scale. The pieces are tableware although one of the main
aims of the work is that each piece can be appreciated as an art object as much as
a functional ware.

Katy Jennings’ is presenting her range of individually made porcelain birds,
that capture a hand crafted tactility and distinct personality. The figures are
presented in a post ready box, that makes an excellent gift or serves as a
temporary nest whilst the bird is adjusting to it’s new home!
Also on display will be a new collection of Katy’s highly original and sought after
hand painted china plates, featuring trademark monsters and decorative birds.
All work at the exhibition will be for sale, making it perfect to make a head start
for some Christmas shopping for the discerning ceramic lover or supporters of
British Handmade objects.
